About Us
Why Chesapeakes? When I started to realize the seriousness of my passion for waterfowling, I decided I wanted to get a retriever to add to the enjoyment of the experience of chasing ducks and geese. So, one of the first things I did after graduating from college years ago was to start looking for a pup to purchase and train. I knew the reputation of the Labrador Retriever as being an all around great hunting breed, but I was confused with the choices that were out there. The Lab had become popular as a pet as well as a hunting retriever and I was concerned about getting a pup that was bred to meet my desires and needs. That is when I discovered the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. After much research, I found that the breed as a whole still retained what it was bred for, to retrieve waterfowl and hunt upland birds. Because the breed has yet to become as popular as the Lab or Golden, most of the Chessies out there still have a lot of the natural ability that it was bred for. Too many Labs and Goldens have had that bred out of them. So, I chose a Chessie as my first duck dog and have been in love with them ever since!
